Minesweeper
Explore a nine-by-nine Minesweeper board with ten hidden mines. Read numbered clues, flag suspicious squares, and safely uncover every clear cell.
How to play Minesweeper
- Reveal a covered cell to begin. Your first reveal cannot be a mine.
- Read each number as the count of mines in its eight neighboring cells.
- Right-click a covered cell to flag it, or enable Flag mode and tap.
- Turn Flag mode off to continue revealing safe cells.
- Reveal all 71 safe cells to win; revealing a mine ends the round.
Controls: Click or tap to reveal. Right-click to flag, or use the Flag mode button.
Minesweeper turns a covered grid into a network of small deductions. Each revealed number tells you how many mines touch that square, including diagonal neighbors. Use those clues to decide which covered cells are safe and which deserve a flag. This beginner board has nine rows, nine columns, and ten mines. Your first reveal is always safe, giving you a fair place to begin. A flag marks your suspicion but does not prove that a mine is there. Win by revealing every non-mine cell. On a phone, switch Flag mode on to mark squares without needing a right click.
A few useful tips
- A 1 beside one covered neighbor identifies that neighbor as a mine.
- Compare overlapping clues rather than treating each number separately.
- Remember that a flag is your own note and may need correcting.
Frequently asked questions
Is the first click safe?
Yes. Mines are placed after your first reveal, excluding the cell you chose.
How do I flag a mine on mobile?
Tap Flag mode to turn it on, then tap covered cells to add or remove flags. Turn it off before revealing cells.
Must I place all ten flags to win?
No. Winning requires uncovering every safe cell. Flags help you reason but are not required.
